The event
An all-day walk into 2050
The 2050 Final Showcase brings together innovators, researchers, founders, and visionaries to present the ideas that will shape the next quarter-century. Mabuhay Gardens is turned into a future-forward experience space: two stages of TED-style programming running concurrently, wrapped around a curated zone of immersive, interactive booths.

Mabuhay Gardens, 443 Broadway, San Francisco — both rooms
Format

Theme
Optimistic futurism — grounded in science, human-centred, forward-looking
Capacity
400–600 concurrent across all zones
The first edition
Biopunk 2050: S26 Final Showcase ran at Mabuhay Gardens on 15 August 2026 under the theme “2050: Visions of an Optimistic Future” — the first time the room was built. What follows is the venue design brief for the full-scale build: the layout, the production spec, and what exhibitors are held to.
Venue layout
Two stages, one exhibition floor
Programming runs concurrently on both stages with separate audio feeds. The booth zone sits between them, so the walk from one talk to the next goes through the exhibition rather than around it.

Exhibition
The booth zone is the heart of it
Three booth formats, laid out on a grid with wide aisles. Living plant walls and translucent fabric scrims divide the zone; projected floor patterns and a low generative soundscape hold the ambience between talks.

Layout
Grid pattern with aisles no narrower than 8ft, so flow between stages runs through the exhibition.
Dividers
Living plant walls and translucent fabric scrims — soft zoning rather than hard walls.
Ambient
Projected floor patterns and a low-volume generative soundscape across the zone.
Attendee journey
Twelve hours, one arc
Lighting and sound move with the day — warm in the morning, cool through the afternoon, dynamic in the evening. The venue should feel like it is keeping time with the programme.
10:00 · ARRIVAL
Street to 2050
A branded 20ft entry tunnel with projected ambient visuals and spatial audio makes the transition. Check-in prints a digital badge carrying a QR code for the schedule, booth map, and networking. The ambient soundscape shifts as you cross into the main space.
10:30–13:00 · MORNING
Opening keynote and featured talks
Stage 1 runs the opening keynote plus three to four featured talks at 20 minutes each. Stage 2 runs lightning talks at 8 minutes on a rolling schedule. Booths are open for exploration between talks.
13:00–14:30 · MIDDAY
Networking lunch
Lunch in the F&B zone. Booths stay open for extended demos; the slot is built for informal meetups and 1:1 connections rather than programming.
14:30–17:30 · AFTERNOON
Panels, demos, peak floor traffic
Stage 1 turns to panel discussions and featured talks; Stage 2 runs interactive demos and audience Q&A. This is peak booth traffic — every exhibitor staffed.
18:00–22:00 · EVENING
Closing keynote and reception
Lighting shifts to a warmer, more dynamic palette. Stage 1 carries the closing keynote and finale; Stage 2 becomes open mic and community showcase. A networking reception runs with music, food, and continued booth access.
Production spec
What has to be in the building
Both stages run independent programming, which means independent audio. Everything on Stage 1 is captured at podcast quality; the room is wired for 500 concurrent devices before a single exhibitor plugs in.

  • Stage 2 — large-format screen and projector (6,000 lumens minimum), powered speakers, 2 wireless lavs, 1 handheld, stage monitor.
  • Both — separate audio feeds for independent programming, house mix position.
Lighting
  • Stage 1 — front wash in warm white, key light with adjustable colour temperature, teal and cyan edge accents, soft audience wash.

Branding touchpoints
Where the identity lands
01
Entry experience
A freestanding 2050 marquee outside with the event date. Inside, the 20ft entry corridor of projected visuals and spatial audio, then a welcome wall carrying the large-format schedule and venue map.
02
Stage branding
Stage 1 runs a full LED backdrop with the animated 2050 template, lower-third speaker graphics, and a countdown timer between talks. Stage 2 uses the branded screen template with speaker name, title, and topic, and a persistent event hashtag. Both lecterns carry the event logo.
03
Wayfinding & signage
Suspended directional signs in navy with teal arrows, floor decals guiding traffic between zones, and digital schedule boards at each stage entrance updating in real time.
04
Printed collateral
Navy attendee badges with name, affiliation, and QR code. A bifold programme carrying the schedule, speaker bios, booth map, and sponsors. Exhibitor nameplates on one template — navy header, teal accent.
05
Digital presence
#2050Showcase on every screen. Two to three branded photo walls or installations. A live social feed running in the networking lounge.
